FAITH SEEKING UNDERSTANDING IN AND FOR TODAY'S WORLD

Jesuit Theological College (JTC) is located in Parkville, in the "learning precinct" of the city of Melbourne, close to the University of Melbourne and to the central business district.

JTC is both an academic centre and a community of members of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuit order). Most of those in the community are being trained as Jesuit priests or brothers.

As an academic centre, JTC is one of the three constituent colleges of the United Faculty of Theology (UFT), an ecumenical enterprise drawing on the traditions and resources of the Anglican, Catholic and Uniting Churches. The UFT is, in turn, one of the teaching institutions of the MCD University of Divinity (MCD), previously the Melbourne College of Divinity, a body established under statute of the State of Victoria and recognised as a university by the Australian government, beginning in 2012.

JTC is also one of the two partners who own and administer the Dalton McCaughey Library (DML), one of the leading theological libraries in Australia.

On Thursday, 21st February, the Principal of JTC, Dr Janette Gray RSM, delivered this year's commencement lecture for UFT.  Entitled "Who is Church? Not What", the lecture was well attended by faculty, students new and old, and various guests.

Two members of JTC faculty have been chosen by their academic colleagues to represent their fields on the re-structured Academic Board of MCD University.  Dr Janette Gray RSM, a systematic theologian, will represent the Christian Thought and History department, while Dr Catherine Playoust, a New Testament scholar, will represent Biblical Studies.

On Wednesday, 27 February, the JTC community and faculty came together  for a Mass for the start of the academic year, praying for the Holy Spirit's guidance on our teaching, learning and formation this year.  Fr Robin Koning presided and our newest member of faculty, Fr Jamie Calder, preached.  Scholastic Justin Glyn organized the music, with Associate Faculty member, Fr Chris Willock, on organ.  The Mass was celebrated at the local parish Church of St Carthage.

Jesuit Theological College acknowledges the Wurundjeri people,
the traditional custodians of the land on which the college now stands.
