Janette Gray is a Sister of Mercy (Adelaide Congregation). She was educated at Macquarie University, United Faculty of Theology, and Cambridge University.

Her teaching areas are in systematic theology, especially theology of Human Person, Church, Feminist theology, and Christian Muslim relations.

Her research areas are in:

  • the theological forerunners to Vatican II,
  • the teaching of Vatican II,
  • the Christian anthropology of M-D Chenu OP,
  • contemporary religious life, and
  • women's religious experience.

  • Neither Escaping nor Exploiting Sex: Women's Celibacy (St Paul, 1995)
  • Bodies, Lives and Voices (Sheffield, 1997) (co-edited with Kathy O'Grady and Ann Gilroy).

She is a member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy Australia National Formation Council.
